Daily Offer shopping site opens for business
Daily Offer (http://www.dailyoffer.co.nz), a shopping site that combines the consumer appeal of time-limited deals with the power of social media marketing, has just launched in New Zealand.
The concept is simple. Focusing on services, one heavily discounted deal (at least 50% off) is available for one day only. This encourages not only rapid uptake of the deal but also allows each advertiser competitor-free promotion.
But there’s a catch. The deal needs a minimum number of people to agree to buy it in order for it to activate, encouraging users to share the offer with their friends and family – through Twitter, Facebook and email. This dissemination through social networks allows the site (and each advertiser’s offer) to essentially market itself.
Internationally, group-buying websites such as Groupon.com and LivingSocial.com attract 3.9 million unique visitors a month (March 2010). More importantly, that traffic converts to sales. United States market leader, Groupon.com, is second only to YouTube as the fastest start-up to go from launch to $ 1billion + in valuation, achieving this milestone in just less than 16 months.
Now, Auckland-based online publishers, Digital Partners, are the first to bring the concept to New Zealand. Featuring the best in local businesses, DailyOffer.co.nz is launching in Auckland first, with plans to be available in Wellington and Christchurch by the end of June 2010.
“The site not only offers great deals for consumers, but a practical and risk-free advertising solution for businesses.” says Group Manager, Blair Dods. “Not only do local businesses enjoy word-of-mouth endorsement from our users as they share the offers through their networks, there are also no up-front costs. We work with our businesses by only taking a commission from every offer sold, so when they make money, we make money.”
During its first week, DailyOffer.co.nz will feature a range of services; massages, facials, and cinema tickets at deeply discounted rates.
