Inventions intend
to inspire
The most ground-breaking competition at Fieldays, the Innovation Competition, is sure to astound farming devotees with the selection and quality of entries. Both sections in the competition, the Inventions category and the Equipment category, have attracted 28 submissions each. Supporting the Premier Feature ‘Innovation for Future Profit’, the Innovation Centre, powered by the University of Waikato, will house the pioneering inventions right in the heart of Fieldays.
Judging the agricultural developments will occur on the very first day of Fieldays, 16 June 2010. The winners of each category, the Young Inventor of the Year award and the esteemed Golden Standard will be presented the following morning. Entrants and industry professionals will await the results at the Awards Breakfast with guest speakers Te Radar, Ceri Wells and Hon Jim Bolger.
The journey for the entrants does not end once the winners have been announced. The informative seminar evening ‘The Next Step’ held on Friday 18th June, will allow contestants to recognise the potential market value of their backyard inventions. Industry experts and those who have been successful in the rural sector will be sharing their secrets of triumph, as well as providing useful advice to the entrants. Speakers at the evening consist of: Ian Anthony (marketing expert from Verdict), Peter Maxwell (mentor at TechNZ), Bill Gallagher (leading agricultural inventor) and Ed (a past entrant who has ‘made it’). International delegates will also be present at the evening to provide insight into international trade opportunities.
The Innovation Centre, powered by the University of Waikato with support from Straight Furrow and James & Wells, is sure to impress and inspire all who attend the inventive agricultural hub.
