Trade show at Addington
Katrina Gordon Trade Shows Ltd will be running their annual hospitality industry trade show at Addington Raceway on 14 July 2010. Of the 15 trade shows the company will run around New Zealand in 2010, this will be the first in the South Island. The company is celebrating its 21st year of bringing hospitality trade shows to the regional markets of New Zealand.
The trade show will showcase suppliers products and services across the broad spectrum of the hospitality industry from new niche food products to convenience foods, herbs and spices, kitchen equipment through to wine glasses, from beds through to room amenities, cash registers and accounting systems. Once again there will be plenty on display from local and nationwide suppliers to interest the Christchurch and Canterbury hospitality industry. A concept room presented by Dalman Architecture will be a feature.
This year, there will be a celebrity cook off sponsored by Countrywide Distributors and their Christchurch member Service Foods. The cook off will team celebrities with local chefs to produce the chefs’ signature dish. Celebrities who have agreed to the challenge so far include local HANZ President Peter Morrison, ex All Black Gary Seear, TV presenter Jo Giles. Others will be announced as they accept the challenge. They will be teamed with Chefs Mike Todd from Mu, Peter Cassini of the Belgian Beer Café, Trevor Griggs from the Novotel, Nigel Fenton–Lee of Movable Feasts and Josh Young from Cook’n With Gas.
Also featuring will be the Robert Timms’ Barista competition, which is an entry level competition for those coffee makers wishing to try their hand in a competition, and the always popular Glimac Agencies/Sleepyhead sponsored bed-making competition. This year the bed-making competition will see room attendants attempting to set a world record for the making of a hotel queen sized bed. In the past few years this highly competitive event has attracted competitors from the major Christchurch hotels, with Wai-ita Moka from Rydges Hotel winning the national competition in 2008 and 2009.
This year will also feature a ration pack challenge in association with the New Zealand Army. In this challenge chefs will have to prepare food from the Army’s 24-hour ration pack and they will be given 4 additional “mystery” ingredients to assist them. Canterbury Radio and TV personality Pete Smith will be master of ceremonies.
The show will be open to the trade from 1.00pm – 7.00pm. This is a trade only show and entry is by invitation.
