WHK Strengthens Tax Division to Support Growing
SMEs
WHK is pleased to announce the
appointment of Andrew Sayers to Principal and the head of
its Auckland Tax Consulting division. Sayers has a
particular focus on international business structuring and
cross-border transactions. He is a member of WHK’s Import
/ Export Advisory Team, which provides specialist strategic
advice to Kiwi companies looking to grow their business
offshore and foreign firms operating in New
Zealand.
Sayers is experienced in all matters of taxation and his appointment bolsters WHK’s offering to its clients, which range from high net worth individuals to medium-sized enterprises through to multinational companies.
“Our contention is that all companies regardless of size need and can benefit from specialist tax advice. WHK’s advantage is that we can offer a tailored, team-based service to our clients, each of which has particular, and changing, tax needs,” said Sayers. “We know our clients’ businesses from the inside out, which allows our team to deliver practical client customised advice and solutions rather than a one-size fits all approach.”
WHK has a network of 40 tax specialists throughout New Zealand and a much larger team in Australia. This results in a very significant trans-Tasman capability and expertise, bought about by a close working relationship between tax teams in the two countries. Australasia’s fifth-largest accountancy business has recently formed a working relationship with Austrade (Australian Trade Commission), which offers advice, market intelligence and ongoing support to Australian businesses operating offshore.
Sayers is a featured co-author of articles in international publications including the CCH International Master Tax Guide, New Zealand Export and Trade Handbook and the Asia Pacific Tax Journal. Prior to joining WHK in 2007, Sayers worked for PricewaterhouseCoopers for eight years in their Corporate Taxation Services Team.
WHK has also appointed Donna Harkness to the role of Associate Principal of Tax Consulting. Harkness, who also heads up WHK Auckland’s Statutory Compliance Team, has a close relationship with the firm’s Audit and Assurance division, working to ensure that all taxation disclosures in clients’ annual audited financial statements are accurate.
Harkness has a broad range of expertise from tax effective structuring and planning through to tax risk management and consulting on a variety of national and international taxation matters such as GST, withholding tax and other tax compliance obligations.
WHK is the country’s leading provider of business advisory and accounting services to small and medium sized businesses. Formed from buyouts on both sides of the Tasman over the past few years, WHK also has many of New Zealand’s largest companies and high net-worth individuals as clients.
