Airline Alliance is Anti-competitive
The Wellington Employers' Chamber of Commerce has opposed the proposed Air New Zealand Virgin Blue Alliance on the grounds that the subsequent reduction in competition is likely to result in increased fares and reduced trans-Tasman flights. The views were expressed in a submission to the Minister of Transport.
The chamber has also signed up to a similar submission from a group of business, local government and tourism organisations from the Wellington region opposing the alliance. The group includes:
• Greater Wellington
Regional Council
• Grow Wellington
• Positively
Wellington Tourism
• Wellington Employers‘ Chamber of
Commerce
• Wellington City Council
• Wellington
International Airport Limited
