Stamps on the rise just another cost to business
"The price of postage remains incredibly good value for money. Nonetheless with standard postage going up to 60 cents it's just another fixed cost New Zealand businesses will have to swallow this year," claims one Auckland business advocate.
"On its own it's not significant. However when you also consider extra ETS-related costs, GST and interest rates going up, all while confidence remains flat, it paints a challenging environment for business," says Cameron Brewer.
"We're seeing a lot of fixed costs on the rise but people's revenue streams, wages and salaries are not increasing to compensate.
"However we remain convinced that despite inflation hitting record highs in the coming months, the fourth quarter will be a little kinder to business. Across-the-board tax cuts will provide a good boost, as will a solid Fonterra payout, and finally we'll get some certainty around Auckland's future," says Mr Brewer.
