Ashburton Chocolate Shop attempting World Record

Ashburton Chocolate Shop attempting Guinness World Record For Longest Chocolate Bar

The rural farming town of Ashburton is gripped by a chocolate fever with the announcement that local chocolatier, BULLRUSH Chocolates intends to take on the world and make the longest chocolate bar ever in September.

And in true community style the people of Ashburton have got right behind the Guinness World Record attempt, in the hope that the town may become the new chocolate capital of the world.

Even local engineering firm Lusk Engineers is foregoing the usual farm equipment repairs in order to design a stainless steel mould big enough to make the slabs of chocolate required to beat the current 11. 57 metre record is held by an Italian chocolatier.

In true Kiwi can do style BULLRUSH Chocolates owners, Bex Carr and Nadine Porter decided that it was time to show the Europeans that New Zealand is just as good at making quality chocolate bars and intend to set a new world record of 12 metres using a staggering 85 to 100kgs of high quality coverture chocolate.

“New Zealanders love their chocolate and what better way to celebrate that then by making the longest bar ever,” co-owner Bex Carr said.

Partner Nadine Porter agreed. “We’ve always been a little eccentric as chocolatiers, so this seemed like a natural thing to do.”

Since beginning their business from home as young mothers a year and a half ago the pair have become renown nation-wide for their quirky flavours including their bestselling rhubarb and kumara dark chocolate and raspberry wasabi bitter chocolate and the high standard of their products which led to them opening a shop and online business at the beginning of this year.

“Our world record attempt is as much about thanking the country for the support they’ve shown for good chocolate and BULLRUSH Chocolates in particular.” Mrs Carr said.

The world record attempt will take place alongside a chocolate festival outside the shop at 208 Burnett Street, Ashburton on September 11th from 10am to 4pm. “Although we may be starting at midnight the night before in order for us to get the chocolate made in time!” Mrs Porter said.

Local dignitaries including the mayor and chef Richard Till will also be present. “I’m sure they’ll help us eat it at the end.” And some chocolate will also be auctioned off for community causes.
