Wellington’s top properties announced

A stunning new home in Porirua, an exquisite home renovation in Kelburn and the New Zealand Supreme Court building have been named this year’s top Wellington properties winning Supreme Awards in the Wellington Registered Master Builders 2010 House of the Year and RMB Commercial Project Awards, in association with PlaceMakers.

Keys Construction Limited won the New Homes $600,000 - $1million category and also took out the PlaceMakers Supreme Award for the House of the Year, while Plan It Construction Limited won the Renovation over $500,000 category and the PlaceMakers Supreme Award for the Renovation of the Year.

Mainzeal Property and Construction Limited took out the RMB Commercial Project of the Year as well as winning the Capital City Mazda Industrial and Infrastructure Project for its development of the New Zealand Supreme Court building.

The stunning four bedroom home built by Keys Construction Limited impressed the competition’s judges with its high standard of workmanship.

“The home has been meticulously built, and has an incredibly high degree of accuracy,” competition judges said.

“The builder has created a series of interior spaces which work together nicely.”

Plan It Construction Limited was faced with a challenging brief to add an additional story to the home, which required digging under its original dwelling.

“Extensions to the upper levels allowed for renovation of the living areas, all in keeping with the original character of the house,” judges said.

“The builder showed careful attention to detail throughout the renovation. Thoughtful consideration has been given to the integration of the kitchen, and to the indoor-outdoor living.”

Mainzeal Property and Construction Limited’s development of the Supreme Court was a complex project which required the inspiration of two unique buildings – the classical elegance of the Old High Court Building and the unique contemporary design of an entirely new structure.

“Elements of the construction were extremely difficult and the builder has displayed outstanding skill. Something extremely special has been created by the builder,” they said.

The winning builders were recognised by members of the Wellington Registered Master Builders Association and the local building industry at a gala dinner at the Duxton Hotel on Friday.

Overall there were 11 Gold Award winners from the Wellington Association which will now be judged alongside Gold Award winners from the other 19 regions of the competition, to find the National Gold Reserve finalists. These finalists will be announced in September.

National category winners, PlaceMakers Supreme Awards for the Renovation of the Year and the House of the Year; and the RMB Commercial Project of the Year will be announced at a gala dinner in Auckland in November.
