Mana Coach Services will continue uninterrupted

Ongoing industrial action by members of the Tramways Union has not affected Mana Coaches’ services over the weekend, and is unlikely to do so during any further disruption,” Mr Geoff Norman, CEO of Mana Coach Services said today.

“For commuters and travellers using services out of our Kapiti, Porirua and Newlands depots, services will continue as normal,” he said.

“The company employs 143 drivers, of which only 26 are members of this particular union.”

Mana Coaches says the proper place for negotiating terms and conditions is at the bargaining table, not in the news media. A problem is that the union has involved a representative from another union who has no members at all with the company.

“We’ve given the union a proposal following meetings as far back as May and June. We received no response for two months, and now we see industrial action, not negotiation.”

Mana Coaches suggests that the union should return to the bargaining table, rather than holding their colleagues and the public to ransom.
