Finalists Announced for 2010 Roading Excellence

Finalists Announced for 2010 Roading Excellence Awards

The fifteen finalists for the 2010 Roading Excellence Awards were announced today, and include a number of high profile projects.

Competition head judge Dr Robin Dunlop said the introduction of a new, medium sized road project (open to those with a value of $5 - $25 million), has led to the inclusion of several high quality entries which now have a greater chance to be recognised and those behind the projects to be rewarded.

“Where in past years they would have been competing with projects valued in the hundreds of millions, medium sized road projects have now been given their own category in which the innovation and talent of the many people involved can be demonstrated before the judges, and others in the industry.”

The finalists were chosen from an initial 33 entries and will compete across six categories:
• Greenstone Energy Excellence Award for a Major Road Project
• Goughs Excellence Award for a Medium Road Project
• Excellence Award for a Minor Road Project in association with GeoSystems
• InfraTrain New Zealand Best Practice Award – People
• InfraTrain New Zealand Best Practice Award – Procurement
• InfraTrain New Zealand Best Practice Award – Environmental Sustainability

The Roading New Zealand Supreme Winner will be announced at an awards dinner on Monday 27 September at the Duxton Hotel in Wellington.

Roading New Zealand chief executive Chris Olsen said all of the entries had been impressive and the finalists selected were great examples of the high standards and ingenuity found in the New Zealand roading sector.

The Roading Excellence Awards aim to promote leadership, excellence and best practice in the provision of land transport infrastructure. Entry is open to all organisations involved in roading projects carried out within New Zealand.
