KiwiRail Maximises IT Investment with AppSense

AppSense User Virtualisation provides predictable, stable IT environment and optimises resources

Auckland, New Zealand, September 15th 2010 - AppSense, the leading provider of user virtualisation solutions, today announced that the New Zealand Government owned rail and ferry business, KiwiRail, has implemented AppSense as an integral strategic component of its recent IT infrastructure upgrade.

AppSense is operating effectively in KiwiRail’s IT environment consisting of 400 servers, 30 Citrix servers and 1500 desktops that are running over 50 applications. The implementation aligns with KiwiRail’s goal for a user personalisation solution that ensures consistency, predictability and stability for all end users.

AppSense is working to provide KiwiRail with a clean and hassle free IT environment with minimal maintenance costs. KiwiRail is using AppSense to lower desktop management costs by automatically blocking certain applications and unknown scripts from being installed and executed, preventing disruptions to operations and instability to KiwiRail’s centrally administered IT environment.

AppSense enables the centralised management of user profiles with minimum maintenance, providing KiwiRail users with the ability to personalise their working environment while ensuring they always receive a consistent and predictable experience across all desktop delivery mechanisms. Additionally, KiwiRail is using AppSense Performance Manager to optimise its hardware resources, with the number of users serviced by current hardware investments maximised.

MPA, New Zealand owned IT distribution specialist worked with Sanbar to manage and implement the project. Deidre Steyne, Channel Manager at MPA said: “This project is great example of successful partnering with Sanbar, a recognised expert in server based computing, to solve KiwiRail’s business problem through AppSense user virtualisation technology”.
