Kate Radburnd Honoured With Sir George Fistonich Medal

At the New Zealand International Wine Show on Saturday night, winemaker Kate Radburnd was awarded the Sir George Fistonich Medal in recognition of her outstanding contribution to the New Zealand Wine Industry.

In announcing the award, Karen Fistonich, (Chairperson of Villa Maria Estate and daughter of Sir George) cited Kate’s eleven years as a director of New Zealand Winegrowers, her outstanding winemaking success and her commitment to wine judging, sustainable winegrowing and education as the basis for the acknowledgement.

Kate has been winemaking for 27 years, she is co-owner and Managing Director of C J Pask Winery Ltd. Her industry involvement has been extensive, she is a director of New Zealand Winegrowers, a senior wineshow judge nationally and internationally, and Chair of Judges of the Royal Easter Wine Show. She has been instrumental in the development of Sustainable Winegrowing New Zealand, chairing the working group for five years. She is Deputy Chair of Council of the Eastern Institute of Technology which has Wine Science and Viticulture as flagship degrees. She is also a wine consultant with Air New Zealand.
