For Immediate Release: 7 October 2010

Lonely Planet to Unveil Top Travel Picks on Windows Phone 7

Lonely Planet, the world’s leading global travel content provider, will be among the first publishers to release content for the Windows Phone 7 platform in the coming weeks.

Lonely Planet’s TOP CITIES 2011 preview app, developed by Object Consulting, will be available free to Windows Phone 7 users from the Windows Marketplace, launching later this year.

Drawing on the knowledge, passion and kilometres travelled by Lonely Planet’s staff, authors and online community, TOP CITIES 2011 presents inspiration to take travellers out of the ordinary and into some unforgettable city highlights.

Lonely Planet’s TOP CITIES 2011 is an extract from Lonely Planet’s eagerly awaited sixth annual print edition of BEST IN TRAVEL 2011 - the world’s best trends, destinations, journeys and experiences for the upcoming year, published in November 2010.

Lonely Planet’s 2011 top travel lists are shrouded in secrecy until 1 November 2010.

Lonely Planet’s TOP CITIES 2011 app features:

• Users can look forward to being taken on spontaneous adventures through our favourite cities by Lonely Planet’s expert authors.

• Each of the cities listed in the app links back to more detailed travel planning information, book products and community activity on lonelyplanet.com.

• Inspirational travel photography.

• The ability to shake or slide your way to a new city.

• Users who enjoyed the free app will be able to purchase the full printed guide with a simple click through to shop.lonelyplanet.com.

Lonely Planet Global Director Digital Kelly Brough described why the TOP CITIES 2011 app was created: “We wanted to share our passion for travel with Windows Phone 7 users as they enjoy their smart phones and get to know Microsoft’s new platform. We are very excited again to be at the forefront serving consumers across new mobile platforms, just as we have with Apple, Nokia, Google and Amazon.

“It has been invigorating working with Microsoft to develop TOP CITIES 2011 in just five days. The speed with which we were able to turn an inkling of an idea into an entertaining preview app is testament to the ease of working across the Windows Phone 7 platform.”

Lonely Planet’s TOP CITIES 2011 preview app and BEST IN TRAVEL 2011 208pp, full-colour, 180mm x 145mm, paperback will be available in November.
