Pisa Range Estate Receives Fine Wine Recognition

PRESS RELEASE – FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Pisa Range Estate - Receives Fine Wine Recognition

Pisa Range Estate shares top billing for pinot noirs at the IWC – LIBRARY COLLECTION TASTING held in London, with Premier Crus, Vigneron, Michel Gros, Vosne Romanee, Burgundy, France. Both wines scored 92points.

The aim of the Library Collection Tasting is to demonstrate the merits of premium wines from around the world and their cellaring potential. Each year the tasting focuses on 10 year old and 5 year old wines. The 2010 tasting reviewed the 2000 and 2005 vintages.

“This is a very important accolade for us” said Warwick Hawker, Owner as we often get asked ‘how well will this wine age – how long will it cellar for?. For Central Otago producers, this is a very difficult question to answer, as none of us really know – the region is still young and we are still learning. The situation in Burgundy where Monsieur Michel Gros and his family have been making wine in Burgundy since 1860, is very different.

Although the 2005 Pisa Range Estate “Black Poplar Block” pinot noir is no longer commercially available, we wanted to take the opportunity to see how well it’s aging. With the experienced palates of Oz Clarke, Tim AitkenMW, Sam HarropMW, Charles Metcalfe, Derek Smedley MW who were part of the Judging Panel, it gives us confidence that we can make fine wines that will evolve and mature in the bottle. Our vines are now 15years of age so it is very exciting to think what the next 15yrs hold” he said.

“Pisa Range Estate exports to many countries around the world and ‘provenance’ is extremely important in being able to gain traction in those markets. I am currently in New York promoting our wines and this is certainly going to help when talking to Sommeliers and Restaurateurs. The exposure gained through this tasting, with the results featuring in The World of Fine Wine Magazine, November issue, and in IWC – The Worlds Best Wines Book, together with IWC promotions across Asia in 2011 will assist us greatly in raising not only our profile but demonstrate the quality of pinot noir that Central Otago is capable of producing” he said.

Pisa Range Estate is a small family owned boutique vineyard located at Pisa approximately 10km north of Cromwell Central Otago, New Zealand. Minimal intervention is the guiding principle in the management of the vineyard with organic and biodynamic practices being applied – allowing the wines to express their ‘terroir’ and sense of place.
