MEDIA RELEASE

Rotorua’s Lake Okareka Lodge named on list of World Top 10 Honeymoon Destinations

Exclusive Rotorua lodge makes list of world’s top 10 honeymoon destinations

What do luxury lodges and resorts in Paris, Honolulu, Santorini, The Maldives, Phuket, Florence, Dubai, Niagara, Ayers Rock, and New Zealand’s Lake Okareka Lodge near Rotorua have in common?

They are the top 10 honeymoon destinations on the planet according to HotelsCombined.com, the world’s largest online accommodation search engine.
The US-based website streamlines more than 2.5 million international hotel deals simultaneously, aggregating prices from online travel agents and hotel chains throughout the world.
Lake Okareka Lodge manager Diana Moore said she was thrilled but not surprised that Rotorua’s Lake Okareka had made the elite list of top honeymoon destinations in the world.

It followed a similar announcement by HotelsCombined.com earlier in the year naming the exclusive Rotorua property as one of the most romantic places in the world to propose on Valentine’s Day.

“Stunning Lake Okareka and our ultra-luxury lakeside lodge are great New Zealand secrets. But an increasing number of wealthy and often famous travellers from overseas have been discovering these gems and discretely flying in to stay with us to enjoy breathtaking scenery, world class culinary experiences, and the seclusion and privacy this unique unspoilt environment offers.

“Our lodge comprises just three large suites, one on each level, so many of our guests book out the entire complex for exclusive use to ensure they can totally relax without having to worry about other house guests. Honeymooning couples find it a magic, romantic hideaway for a few days of guilt-free pampering.”

“I’m sure we will be fielding more enquiries from around the world once word of this latest accolade gets out,” said Ms Moore.

Lake Okareka Lodge rates start at around NZ$2500 per couple per night in a suite and rise to around $8,000 per night for exclusive-use of the entire lodge with accommodation in the award winning Lake Okareka Suite, gourmet dining, beverages and 24-hour butler service included.

The lodge boasts its own helipad, floatplane jetty, outdoor spa, private beach, massage room and fitness studio.

Last month Mrs Moore wrote to prime minister and tourism minister John key urging him to invite Prince William and his fiancée Kate Middleton to honeymoon in New Zealand after their wedding next year.

“We suggested to Mr Key that a New Zealand honeymoon would be the perfect wedding gift from the people of New Zealand and at the same time it would generate priceless worldwide publicity for New Zealand as a visitor destination.

Mrs Moore said Rotorua would be a great location for the young royal couple to start their New Zealand honeymoon and she would be delighted to have them stay at Lake Okareka Lodge.

“Perhaps Clarence House in London will think about a New Zealand honeymoon for William and Kate when they hear we have one of the top 10 honeymoon spots in the world. Lake Okareka Lodge is certainly ready and equipped to host a future king and queen on their honeymoon.”
