Online rostering and payroll frees-up resources
Online rostering and payroll frees-up resources for front-line care at integrated medical centre
26 January 2011, Auckland. – More resources for front-line care is the result of Auckland-based medical centre operator Shorecare and their adoption of the AMS PayShop online rostering and payroll system, a direction endorsed by the Government.
At the recent opening of Shorecare’s flagship medical centre in Takapuna, Minister of Health Tony Ryall said, “some pundits are predicting that health costs will double in future years. That’s not sustainable. That’s why integrated medical centres like this one need to be developed to take on more care at primary level, rather than having people treated in hospital.”
Getting the back-office processes like rostering and payroll right is an important ingredient in Shorecare’s success, and where AMS PayShop has made a difference, says Mary Gordon, Chief Executive Officer of Shorecare.
“Efficiency of the process is the major benefit for us with AMS PayShop. The efficiency gains and associated cost savings have been significant,” says Ms Gordon.
Previously Shorecare processed their rosters and payroll largely in-house for staff across their two sites.
“We had to invest a lot of administration time into processing the rosters and payroll; it was costly, slow and inflexible,” says Ms Gordon.
Shorecare decided to look for a new solution and wanted a provider with a strong healthcare background.
“With the award conditions, the penal rates and so on, we’ve found health experience means a provider can get their head around it more quickly.”
AMS PayShop has taken away the ‘pain’ of rostering and payroll for Shorecare, says Ms Gordon. “AMS PayShop does the checking and processing and they backup the information. They have taken a lot of hassle away, and we have saved significant money.”
AMS PayShop Manager Tony Sommers said health payroll solutions are very different to those needed for other sectors. “Not only are the complexities extraordinary, but the skills and competencies of the people that are being compensated are extraordinary too.
“Shorecare’s case is significant because we automated the entire rostering/time sheeting process without changing the current rostering business processes; solving their payroll complexity without impacting on people responsible for front-line care.”
