Splash Planet Rockin’ with Record Visitor Numbers

Splash Planet Rockin’ with Record Visitor Numbers

4 February, 2011

New Zealand’s only water theme park has had a bumper season so far, with over 11,000 more visitors this season to the end of January than the same time last year.

Splash Planet has had 86,879 visitors through the gates to the end of January, with temperatures soaring to 36deg and humidity hitting the 99% mark. That’s an increase of 11,481 over the same period last year.

On December 27th park numbers peaked at 3333, with daily attendances through early January consistently exceeding 2000 a day. Many days were closer to 3000.

Hastings mayor Lawrence Yule says although the heat has definitely helped, Splash Planet has also had huge local support, with residents realising what an excellent facility they have on their backdoor step.

“I consistently hear about how locals are proud to take their visitors to Splash Planet not once or twice over the summer but a number of times. They set themselves up for the day with picnics and have a great time as a family,” Mayor Yule says.

The Club Card, which allows Hawke’s Bay families to get up to 50% off entry, have sold better this year than any other with 4286 sold to-date (end of Jan), an increase of 207 on the same period last year.

“That’s a brilliant result for Council. Splash Planet staff have worked hard to get the park running smoothly and attract more visitors through competitions, promotions and fun events, so it’s great to see a positive result”.

This weekend marks the end of the seven-day opening hours with Splash Planet dropping back to weekends only from this Sunday. From Saturday, 12 February to Sunday, 27 March Splash Planet will be open Saturday and Sundays only, between 10.00am and 5.30pm.
