Kathmandu to Open New Store in Christchurch

Kathmandu to Open New Store in Christchurch

Kathmandu today announced it is opening a new retail store in Christchurch at 29 Main North Road, Papanui.

The store will be large format, encompassing Kathmandu’s complete range of outdoor apparel and equipment, including the full Base Camp camping range, and is located adjacent to the Northlands Shopping Centre.

Kathmandu Managing Director Peter Halkett said the deal Kathmandu had secured gives access to the store almost immediately. This should allow trading to start very quickly.

“Despite the current difficulties Christchurch is experiencing, Kathmandu is absolutely committed to Christchurch, and we are confident in the resilience of the people including our own team to get as much of the city up and running as is possible in the weeks ahead,” Mr Halkett said.

“We intend to transfer some of our existing Christchurch staff, whose employment has been affected by the earthquake damage, to fit out and open the new store. We would expect the new store to be convenient for many of our customers who previously shopped in the central city, as well as potential customers from the Wamakariri district”.

The Papanui store adds to the three existing stores Kathmandu currently operates in Christchurch, at Cashel Street, Riccarton and Tower Junction.

“Whilst our Cashel Street and Riccarton stores remain closed for the time being, we are committed to resuming operations at each location as soon as it is practically possible,” Mr Halkett said.

Kathmandu has contributed to the New Zealand Red Cross Earthquake Appeal and will continue to support Red Cross operations and the Christchurch community.
