Down to the Wire reveals the story of 2010

Fresh from its win as Most Outstanding Website at this year’s ONYAs, Down to the Wire brings the story of New Zealand's Internet up-to-date by telling the story of 2010.

2010 was a year of privacy issues, award-winning excellence, social media embarrassments, continued copyright calamities and, finally, some hope that faster Internet was coming for all.

That story is told through entertaining editorial combined with video interviews with Privacy Commissioner Marie Shroff, CEO InternetNZ Vikram Kumar, Domain Name Commissioner Debbie Monaghan and Head of Design & Co-Founder of Xero Philip Fierlinger.

Heyday Digital Strategist and Down to the Wire curator Thomas Scovell says: "We're delighted to continue the story of New Zealand's Internet by recording the views of some of the key personalities shaping the Internet in New Zealand. In turn, it's their work and actions that shape each of our lives. The pursuit of speed and privacy for example doesn't just 'happen', it happens because of these people and it's great to hear directly from them."

downtothewire.co.nz once again calls for readers' contributions to add to the story and provide a wider perspective on the events of the year. In addition, and new for 2010, is a 'Best Sites' section in which visitors can suggest their favourite websites.

Flying Nun once again provide the soundtrack for the chapter – for 2010 it's Thought Ballune by Unknown Mortal Orchestra.

Another addition to the site is a full video archive allowing easy access to more than 60 interviews covering all 22 years of content. Full transcripts of each interview are published alongside the videos.

Down to the Wire is a project originally created by digital agency Heyday to celebrate the 21st anniversary of New Zealand's Internet and to document how it is shaping Kiwi lives.
