Right Questions Needed in NZETS Review
Right Questions Needed in NZETS Review
Asking the right questions is vital in the review of New Zealand's Emissions Trading Scheme (NZETS), says BusinessNZ Chief Executive Phil O'Reilly.
"If our ETS is to balance our international obligations to reduce emissions, with our trade competitiveness and economic growth, it's crucial we look at it in the international context."
BusinessNZ today launched a booklet called Raising the Profile: Comparing New Zealand's Emission Trends Against Other Countries, which gives a global snapshot, including the emissions profiles of countries of key importance to New Zealand.
"The aim of the booklet is to stimulate debate and help answer the questions that need answering as the review progresses," said O'Reilly.
"We're a small country, dependent on international trade, and we can't afford to implement climate change policy in a global vacuum."
