Television Forecast to Become New Zealand’s Largest Medium
Annual media turnover figures released by the ASA yesterday show that, of the major media, only Television and Interactive increased their share of advertising revenue.
For the first time ever the gap between Television and Newspapers, historically the largest medium by share, is now less than 1 percent. On current trend it is expected that Television will become the dominant medium during 2011.
Television’s share of advertising revenue moved from 27.9% to 28.4%, with an increase of 6.6% in revenue, while the advertising market overall showed growth of 4.5%.
“Television’s outperforming of the market is a clear indication of the enduring strength of this medium“, said Rick Friesen, Chief Executive of ThinkTV.
“2010 saw record audience numbers and record time spent viewing so it would have been surprising if advertisers had ignored the fundamentals of consumer behavior”.
With the Rugby World Cup only months away, Television can be expected to once again break records.
