Farmer proposed remits to Annual Meeting

Remits to Beef + Lamb New Zealand Annual Meeting do not find support
Two farmer proposed remits put to the Beef + Lamb New Zealand Annual Meeting have not been supported by farmers.
Beef + Lamb New Zealand Chief Operating Officer, Cros Spooner said the remit "That Beef + Lamb New Zealand immediately withdraw from the Pastoral Greenhouse Gas Research Consortium (PGgRC) and cease its current annual contribution of $250,000 to the PGgRC", proposed by Neil Henderson was lost with 13,286 votes against, 7,189 for and 16 abstentions.
The second remit, also put by Neil Henderson, "That Beef + lamb New Zealand embark on a high profile, large budget campaign to promote the understanding that livestock emissions do not and cannot cause significant global warming," was also lost with 11,769 votes against, 8,546 for and 21 abstentions.
The Beef + Lamb New Zealand Constitution requires a weighted vote to determine remits and a one farmer one vote to determine the company resolutions.
The company resolutation "That the remuneration pool for directors serving on the Board of Beef + Lamb New Zealand be increased from $283,250 to $320,250 per annum to be divided among the directors as agreed by the Board" was lost with 430 votes against, 429 for and 32 abstentions.
A second company resultion "That the Board recommends that KPMG be re-appointed as Beef + Lamb New Zealand's auditor for the year ending 30 September 2011", was carried with 794 votes for, 32 against and 49 abstentions.
