National packaging campaign arrives Auckland

National packaging campaign arrives Auckland Grey Lynn framers market

This is Angus Ho, campaign manager of Wanaka Wastebusters. In November 2010, we conducted the first public opinion survey on packaging with 1000 samples and found that 86% of people were concerned about the amount of packaging waste they had to deal with, and 94% wanted to choose packaging they could reuse or recycle.

We are running a national environmental campaign on stop packaging waste, we running a website www.unpackit.org.nz and have shortlist 8 good and bad packaging products from over 100 nominations, vote for "The Best and Worst Packaging Award" for product in New Zealand.

We are now in a touring around the country from Invercargill to Auckland, we visit schools, farmers markets and communities and tell them about how to choose good packaging and avoid over-packaging products. So far, we have obtained about 7,000 votes from public, which is much more than we expected. We have reached 16 towns, over 30 schools/communities.

Our crew are in Auckland area now and will visit Auckland Grey Lynn framers market, 17/4 Sunday (0900-1200), we would like to meet you and tell more people about the packaging problem in NZ, and the voting competition with display of all good and bad products.
