Anadarko exploration manager to speak at inaugural petroleum event

ENEX, the petroleum industry’s exciting new event to be held at the TSB Stadium in New Plymouth, June 9-10 this year, will feature among its international speakers Jeff Oslund, the Asia Exploration manager for Anadarko.

US giant Anadarko has confirmed plans to drill its first oil and gas exploration well off Canterbury during the 2011-12 summer, followed by one in the Deepwater Taranaki Basin.

Anadarko external communications director John Christiansen says the explorer is already evaluating the offshore rig market, with the aim of bringing a semi-submersible rig or drillship “down under” next summer, probably as part of a consortium to share the high costs of bringing rigs to remote New Zealand.

The Houston-based major wants to drill a Canterbury Basin prospect, probably the Carrack-Caravel twin structure in licence PEP 38262, during the fourth quarter this year or early next, followed by a well in the Deepwater Taranaki licence PEP 38451.

Jeff Oslund will be speaking to delegates on the second day of the two-day ENEX event.
