New Brightwater facility to benefit local community and industry in Westport
Nelson based engineering
company Brightwater, is finalising the construction plans
for a new, state of the art purpose-built workshop facility
in Westport to be completed by the end of this year.
It is expected that the new workshop will employ upwards of 30 trades staff and will provide a much needed modern engineering facility in Westport. Brightwater Services General Manager Mitchell Easton says, “For many years Brightwater has provided a remote service for Westport from facilities in Nelson and Greymouth. However this has often been a compromise to both Brightwater and our customers in many ways. The time has come for Brightwater to address that by further commitment in the region.”
Mitchell adds, “As with all Brightwater operations throughout Australasia, we will continue to invest in our Westport staff with the same level of commitment we demonstrate to our external customers. This will see opportunities for young Westport teenagers to become a part of our successful apprenticeship scheme or our engineering cadet program. Career paths into both Business and Project Management will also become available through the local facility. The opportunity to build these professional skills coupled with local industry process knowledge is invaluable.”
In addition to the substantial workshop facility the recent ESCO distributorship acquired by Brightwater will be supported out of both the new Westport facility and our Gray Brothers Engineering workshop in Greymouth. “We believe the local stock holding of ESCO consumable wear product, will provide a welcome advantage to our mining, quarry and construction industry customers,” says Mitchell..
Over the last decade, Brightwater has been a
significant contributor to the West Coast economy. The
company has delivered large scale projects such as the Pike
River and the Stockton coal handling and processing plants
together with a host of other mining and related projects.
Last year the company acquired Greymouth based engineering
company Gray Brothers and by adding the new facility the
company will further strengthen its presence and capability
in the area.
The new branch will be overseen by Eddie
Gray from Gray Brothers, as part of Brightwater’s West
Coast Services operation. The workshop facility will provide
local project support, a highly qualified trade base with
multi-purpose design workshop facilities supported by the
Brightwater Engineering and Brightwater Manufacturing
divisions. The workshop will be high-bay with a 30 tonne
crane capacity, enabling it to handle a wide range of
industry requirements. Construction on the new facility will
begin shortly and it is expected to be up and running in the
second half of
2011.
