Innovative approach to creating safer drivers

On-line driver training an innovative approach to creating safer drivers and cutting fleet costs

SurePlan New Zealand, a market leader in fleet risk management services for over seven years has saved $36,540.00 in crash repair costs for one of its clients in 2010. How you ask? It is through SurePlan’s new innovative online Driving Safer training program.

Statistics show that driving a vehicle for work can be the most dangerous thing we do, with company vehicle drivers having twice the crash rate as private motor vehicle drivers.

If you are responsible for the health & safety of your drivers and or company vehicles in your organisation, how much time do your drivers spend behind the wheel and how much of your organisation training budget is invested in driver education and training?

It’s a wise investment as safer drivers don’t only help cut the repair costs, but they are also more economical drivers. It is estimated that for every 10 km/h you travel over the speed limit you increase fuel consumption by 10%.

SurePlan has been providing fleet risk management solutions in New Zealand for over seven years and they could see that the majority of reported crashes were not caused by the driver’s skills; it’s more about the driver’s attitude and behaviour when behind the wheel of a company vehicle.

Gordon Brown the GM at SurePlan says “ our data shows that driver behaviour is one of the major causes of fleet crashes, therefore it made sense to us to develop a driver training program that focused on this and was easily accessible, thus making it cost effective”. The Driving Safer training is carried out on-line and with each driver getting a login, which means measurable learning. The training program will record when you the student has started, how many attempts were made to complete the check points on each topic and when the training was completed. With training that’s measurable it provides confidence that the student has taken in the key points about how to manage the risks of their work place, their company car.

If you run a fleet of company vehicles you can contact SurePlan on Ph 0800 380580 and ask for a month free trial to assess the training or go to www.sureplan.co.nz to find out more.
