Regional Tourism Organisations Has A New Chair

Press release – New RTONZ Chair announced

10 May 2011

Regional Tourism Organisations New Zealand (RTONZ) has a new Chair.

David Perks, CEO of Positively Wellington Tourism has been elected incoming Chair of RTONZ following the resignation of Don Gunn, who is leaving Destination Rotorua Tourism marketing to pursue business interests.

Within a few months of taking the helm at Positively Wellington Tourism in late 2008, David was pitching to the Prime Minister on how he saw the future of marketing the country’s regions in Australia. Less than a year later John Key announced $5 million of new funding for the joint venture initiative that has enabled New Zealand’s gateways to manage collective regional campaigns across the ditch. Before joining PWT David spent 16 years in the hotel sector in both his adopted and native homes, including a decade with Singapore-based Millennium Hotels, and as General Manager of Copthorne Hotel and Resort Bay of Islands he was instrumental in setting up a collective to increase the level of conferencing in the Northland region. David also sits on the board Conventions Incentives New Zealand, Arts Wellington and the NZ Sevens.

He will take up the position at the conclusion of TRENZ. A replacement RTONZ North Island to replace Don Gunn is currently being sought.
