Profit focus brings rewards
Becoming profit focused and making decisions based on profit has been a winning approach to management for dry stock farmers Allan and Mary-Anne Goddard, according to farm business specialist Peter Floyd.
“After earlier careers in commerce they have had no difficulty in adapting business principles to farming and they have taken to the eCOGENT process and predictive software like ducks to water,” says Floyd.
“In just two years they have increased profit by 50% and that has given them the income and time that allows them to achieve the lifestyle and community involvement they want.”
The Goddards recently won the PGG Wrightson Land and Life Award at the Waikato Balance Farm Environment Awards. Judges commented on their setting of achievable goals and profit focus enabled by recording and analysis of on-farm data.
