Supreme Award for a
Large Manufacturer Awarded to:
Deep South Ice
Cream Vanilla
At the Fifteenth New Zealand Ice Cream Awards held in Queenstown on the evening of Thursday, 26 May, 2011 Deep South Ice Cream was awarded the “Supreme Award for a Large Manufacturer” for Deep South’s Premium Vanilla Ice Cream.
With perfect scores for creaminess, smoothness and flavour intensity, Judges described Deep South Premium Vanilla Ice Cream as “simply the best – no indulgent flavours to hide behind – this ice cream is simple and clean with perfect texture”.
“Silver Awards” were also awarded to Deep South within the Premium Ice Cream category for French Vanilla , Blackcurrant and Liquorice ice creams.
In accepting the Supreme Award, Mike Killick co-owner of Deep South Ice Cream said that “this Supreme Award is in recognition of what we believe is a truly premium ice cream that has been developed over the years by Brian Simon and is a testament to his hard work and passion for ice cream”.
Both Killick and business partner Alex Hopkins see this as an added bonus to the Deep South Ice Cream business they recently purchased and will provided formal recognition to what existing connoisseurs of Deep South Ice Cream having been saying for years, “that Deep South’s premium vanilla ice cream is simply the best”.
Adding to this, Alex Hopkins commented that “not only does this reinforce that as a result of the Deep South Ice Cream ownership and management change that the ice cream itself has not changed, but we are now in a stronger position to expand the business both nationally and internationally”.
The Ice Cream Awards were in fact a successful evening for South Island based ice cream manufacturer. Not only did Deep South Ice Cream take out the Supreme Award for a Large Manufacturer but “Gold Awards” and “Best in Category Awards” were also received by boutique ice cream manufacturers Patagonia Chocolates Ltd (Queenstown) in the Premium Ice Cream category and Pure New Zealand Ice Cream (Wanaka) in the Open Creative category. This just goes to show, Killick says “that the Deep South is truly the home of award winning ice cream”.
Killick and Hopkins acknowledge the efforts and skill of the Deep South team at both of their manufacturing facilities in Christchurch and Invercargill in being able to obtain these awards and thanks the NZ Ice Cream Association for the awards and recognition.
