Blacksheepdesign celebrates national PR success

Ally Koehler from Blacksheepdesign received a national award at the Public Relations Institute of New Zealand (PRiNZ) Awards in Rotorua on Friday, proving kindergarten communication is more than child’s play.

The win in the Sustained Public Relations category recognises and celebrates Blacksheepdesign’s ongoing work with Ruahine Kindergartens to promote the value of high quality, community-oriented early childhood education.

As a recent graduate of Massey University’s Bachelor of Communication, Ms Koehler has been working with Palmerston North design agency Blacksheepdesign for just 14 months and is delighted with her first corporate success.

“It’s a huge honour to achieve recognition from respected industry peers this early on in my career, and I couldn’t think of a better team than Blacksheep to achieve success with”, she said.

“I don’t have children, but I certainly know a lot about kindergarten now, and I’m continually inspired by the passion Ruahine Kindergartens teachers have for the wellbeing of our region’s children and their families.”

Nicknamed Operation Communication, the winning project involved developing and implementing an integrated communications plan for the Ruahine Kindergarten Association, which operates 25 kindergartens throughout the Manawatu, Rangitikei, Pahiatua and Foxton.

Tactics were designed to unite all 25 kindergartens, maximise opportunities for positive media engagement, strengthen community ties and position the association as a leader in early childhood education.

Judges described the project as “A very professional, thoroughly researched project, cleverly planned and well executed with results reflecting that”, and commended its strong focus on relationships.

The annual PRiNZ Awards reward excellence and encourage improvement in public relations and communications management across 10 categories, plus the Sally Logan-Milne Young Practitioner Award and Supreme Award.

Chief Judge Gordon Chesterman says “Award-winning entries reflect sound public relations and communications objectives, demonstrate high standards of performance, production and presentation and must provide clear evidence they have achieved their objectives.”
