Arthur Barnett Reopens in Christchurch
Five years after closing its department store in Christchurch, Arthur Barnett has reopened its doors in a new location at Hornby Dress Smart.
Arthur Barnett General Manager, Sue Smaill, said the decision to open a temporary store in Christchurch was driven largely by a rise in mail order inquiries from Cantabrians.
“After the earthquake in September, our Dunedin store began fielding an increasing number of mail order placements from Christchurch-based customers,” Sue said.
“Since the February earthquake, those orders have grown exponentially and the number of Cantabrians visiting our Dunedin store to purchase goods has also risen. Opening a store in Christchurch is our effort at satisfying that local demand for our goods and services.”
The 116m sq store which opened this week carries a range of competitively priced icon brands including makeup, skincare, fragrances and underwear.
“Customers can also continue to order through us any other additional items that they require from our Dunedin store.”
Sue said the store would continue to operate as long as the customer demand was there.
Arthur Barnett is a Dunedin-based independent department store. It was established in 1903 and operated in Christchurch until February 2006. The store carries a range of international and locally recognised brands.
