Northwood New World $8 million upgrade takes shape

Work on the $8 million upgrade of the New World Northwood supermarket is well under way with new concrete floors at the front of the existing building already poured and the concrete slab walls starting to be erected.

Work on the upgrade, which will double the size of the shopping area, will be completed by February next year, although the major part of the construction will be finished before Christmas.

Kathy Frampton, owner/operator of New World Northwood, said that once finished the supermarket will give customers a fantastic shopping experience.

“The extra space gives us so much scope to expand key sections such as the bakery, butchery, seafood and deli. In fact everything,” she said.

A new entrance foyer, with fresh espresso coffee from the new cafe, lotto outlet and flower section will greet customers when they enter the supermarket.

“With the popularity of reality cooking competitions and celebrity chef programmes, customers are becoming increasingly discerning in their tastes, their cooking styles and requirements. We need to be able to answer their questions and cater for them, and the larger supermarket will allow us to do that.

“I’m really excited about the seafood area. There will be live mussels, whole fish, shrimps, prawns and many other delicacies as well as a comprehensive range of fresh fillets. In the butchery area our trained staff will be able to help customers with the appropriate cut of meat for their needs or special recipe that they are trying out.

“We will also be making our own sausages, Naturally Northwood, which will be a bit of fun.”

One exciting innovation is the inclusion of a specially imported oven from France for the bakery section, which will make ciabatta and other European-styled breads alongside the existing ranges of breads and cakes.

“Our fresh fruit and vegetable areas will increase markedly, as will the wine section and the deli. We are also opening a sushi bar, introducing a specialty cheese cabinet and increasing our ranges of organic and gluten free items,” she said.

The main entranceway to the supermarket has temporarily closed with customers coming in through a door on the west side. The main entrance will reopen shortly with customers being able to enter through the front of the building via a specially built walkway into our main carpark and this will make it easier for customers to park.

“We are doing everything we can to minimise disruption for customers and to keep them informed of exactly what is happening as we progress through the renovations. Any feedback or questions our customers may have are welcome, after all we are building it for their enjoyment.”
