Hayley McLarin steps down as Editor of New Idea

Hayley McLarin is stepping down as editor of New Idea magazine after six years at the helm to become communications director for a major New Zealand charity. She will leave NZ Magazines at the end of August.

During her time at New Idea, which became part of the APN stable last year, the magazine was named Magazine of the Year (Mass Market) in 2006, and won recognition for New Idea securing big exclusive stories, including Paul Henry's first interview after his TVNZ departure, Marc Ellis' wedding and David Bain's only magazine interviews.

"Whilst I am extremely sad to be giving up this amazing role, I have been offered an exciting opportunity working with CureKids, a charity I have strong links to," she said.

Sarah Sandley, CEO of New Zealand Magazines, said she was interviewing potential candidates and hoped to announce a replacement in the near future.

“We have ample time in which to make a smooth transition. Hayley has done a great job and the work she and her talented team have put into the publication will ensure that it attracts high-calibre applicants. We see a continuation of its success.”
