New Hand Held Technology Provides Instant Point Of Care

New Hand Held Technology Provides Instant Point Of Care For The First Time In Aged Sector

A state of the art point of care technology system providing patient updates in real time has been successfully installed for the first time at a New Zealand aged care facility.

Leading healthcare software provider Netsoft has spent 10 years innovating new technology, the latest of which uses hand held technology to record data at the point of care.

Netsoft marketing manager Michael Beaumont says traditionally a caregiver or nurse uploads patient information once they have returned to their desks, sometimes hours after the care has been provided. This increases the possibility of vital patient information being misreported.

“Handheld technology ensures caregivers can record key patient information as it happens, reducing the chance of patient information being missed during the recording process. This is critical in the healthcare industry when the misreporting of patient information could lead to a patient not receiving the correct healthcare treatment. It also benefits both residents and families of the patient as there is a comprehensive and complete list of all the care the elderly person has received.”

Beaumont says Netsoft has created the technology with simplicity in mind. “One of the major barriers to introducing technology into the aged care sector is that the workforce tends to be low technology users. Carers and nurses are focused on the health of their patients, not on recording information afterwards. A key driver behind the design of Res~Call Mobile is that the people who use the technology find it simple and easy to use, saving time and allowing them to spend more time with their patients. Through ResCall Mobile technology we believe we have achieved this.”

ResCall Mobile’s reporting suite also allows management to analyse the health and wellbeing of its patients and understand better the workloads and issues of the carers. This innovation puts New Zealand Aged Care facilities at the forefront of care innovation worldwide.

Beaumont says a major factor in the success of ResCall Mobile has been the commitment and enthusiasm of the Rosedale Village Nurses and Caregivers which has adopted the new system. “It is their feedback that has enabled the product to be improved so that ResCall Mobile would instantly add value to their job and ensure that this project was a success from day one.”

Rosedale Village manager Debbie Tunui says resident welfare is of paramount concern to Rosedale Village. “This technology provides instantaneous communication and through advanced reporting I can immediately see what care has been delivered to a specific person or group of people as well as check on the progress of the various caregivers”.
