Leadership Training for Businesses and Nonprofit Execs

MEDIA RELEASE

21 JUNE 2011

Leadership Training for Executives of Businesses and Nonprofit Organisations

Two Harvard Business School Professors will visit Australia in August to conduct a one week interactive Leadership Program designed to improve the leadership skills of senior executives of business and government organisations in Australia and New Zealand; and a two and a half day Nonprofit Leader Workshop to provide skills training for leaders of charitable organisations.

The HCA Leadership Program is conducted annually by the Harvard Club of Australia (HCA is a Harvard alumni association). Some of the funds raised by the Program are used to help leaders in the charity sector develop management skills via the HCA Nonprofit Leader Workshop and other HCA initiatives.

Past participants in the Leadership Program include senior managers from New Zealand organisations such as Balance Agri-Nutrients Ltd, GHD Limited, Marlborough Lines and Watercare Services Limited.

“Marlborough Lines staff has on several occasions participated in the Harvard Club Leadership Program. The quality of the presentation and course content is testimony as to why Harvard continues to be one of the leading business universities” Ken Forrest, Managing Director.

The 2011 HCA Leadership Program ‘Building Leadership Capabilities’ will be held from Sunday, 7 August to Friday, 12 August at the Novotel Sydney Manly Pacific. The Nonprofit Leader Workshop will be from Thursday, 11 August to Saturday, 13 August at the same venue.

The Leadership Program and the Nonprofit Leader Workshop will focus on building leadership capabilities necessary to navigate organisations through an increasingly complex world. Through case studies and interactive exercises participants will examine the problems and opportunities leaders of organisations must know how to handle. They will learn about the different roles leaders have to play and the levers they can use - and how to use them!

The Harvard Business School professors will be Rohit Deshpandé and Joshua Margolis. Deshpandé is a Professor of Marketing and his primary research has been on how to create an effective customer-centric corporate culture within organizations. Professor Margolis teaches and conducts research on leadership, ethics, values and decision-making in organisations.

A 2010 participant said, “The concepts, relationships and energy I gained from the Leadership Program has had an enduring and positive influence on my effectiveness at work. I highly recommend the experience for leaders wanting to make an impact on their organisation.”
