Equal Pay the Only Sensible
Thing for Businesses
Recent comments by EMA Northern do not reflect the views of business in our region says Employers’ Chamber of Commerce Central (formerly EMA Central) boss Ken Harris.
Business is not interested in looking at productivity by gender. “Business success is dependent upon having employees that have the best possible skills, knowledge, and experience for each role,” says Harris.
“Successful businesses recruit and support the people regardless of gender, and equal pay for equal work is basic to keeping staff engaged and productive.
“The Equal Pay Act of 1972 covers this already and in any case it is just plain common sense. It is yesterday’s discussion.
“The proposed Equal Pay Amendment bill is unneeded and off beam. NZ business needs less not more compliance burdens from Government and the further intrusions into employee privacy envisaged by the proposed bill are worrying.”
