Tinseltown (NZ) gets his Queensland Cup
It was a case of second time lucky for the Mike Moroney trained Tinseltown in Saturday's Listed Queensland Cup (3200m) as he romped home by two lengths over Smoking Chimneys to create a NZ quinella of the race.
Already the winner of the Group 2 Avondale and Counties Cups and Group 3 Rotorua Cup, Tinseltown (NZ) (Pentire x Tinsel) ran fifth in the Queensland Cup last year, and came into Saturday's race after running a solid third in the Listed Caloundra Cup to Gold in Dubai at his last start.
Ridden by Chad Ormsby and carrying the top weight of 58 kilograms, the seven-year-old was patiently ridden in transit before challenging on the home turn and finishing the race off strongly to post his first win over the 3200 metres after six attempts.
Now the winner of nine of his 50 starts, Tinseltown has earned over $650,000. Bred by Bill Stewart, the son of Pentire was purchased by Paul Moroney Bloodstock at the 2005 Karaka Premier Sale for $70,000.
