No further issues overnight for power network
Power has now been restored to almost all areas affected by snow in the Orion network area after lines crews made excellent progress yesterday to repair damaged overhead lines and equipment.
About 10 customers near Tai Tapu were without power overnight. Access to the area was difficult yesterday due to heavy snow - Orion crews are currently assessing the situation and hope to gain access this morning to restore power. However, given the icy road conditions, the safety of work crews is Orion's first priority.
Orion General Manager Commercial Rob Jamieson says the snow caused no further issues overnight on the electricity network.
"Our crews worked long hours in extreme conditions yesterday to restore power to affected parts of Christchurch and central Canterbury. The snow caused only minor damage to overhead lines, and our crews were able to restore power to almost all customers within 24 hours which was a great result," Mr Jamieson says.
