International Designers Announced for Style Pasifika

One-off garments from top international fashion designers including Yohji Yamamoto (Japan) and John Rocha (Ireland) will form part of the International Designer Collection at this year’s Westfield Style Pasifika: Best of Pasifika event as part of the REAL New Zealand Festival during Rugby World Cup 2011.

The Style Pasifika rugby-inspired International Designer Collection will showcase the selection of garments which have been designed exclusively by celebrated fashion designers from each of the 19 foreign nations participating in Rugby World Cup 2011. The designers have been challenged to produce a rugby-inspired garment using New Zealand Merino wool.

Fashion designers from Wales, Scotland, USA, South Africa, Romania, Canada, Samoa, Georgia, Namibia, Tonga, Fiji, Australia, Argentina, England and Russia have also been confirmed for the International Designer Collection.

These garments will share the catwalk with winning designs from the Westfield Style Pasifika Fashion Awards and rugby-themed creations by celebrated New Zealand fashion designers.

The showcase will be held over two exclusive evenings between Rugby World Cup 2011 semi-final and final games on Tuesday 18 and Wednesday 19 October at Vector Arena in Auckland.

Show Producer and Artistic Director Stan Wolfgramm says: “The REAL New Zealand Festival and Rugby World Cup 2011 provide an amazing opportunity for New Zealand as a nation to tell our story to the world while the spotlight is on us. Style Pasifika has developed the rugby-inspired International Designer Collection with that in mind. It’s incredible to have the support of these celebrated international designers whose input will ensure this year’s event is an absolute must-see for Kiwis and international visitors alike.
