Orion recognised at Champion Canterbury awards
Christchurch and central Canterbury electricity network Orion was acknowledged for providing inspirational leadership of a business in a time of crisis at last night's Champion Canterbury Awards announced by Prime Minister John Key.
A range of Canterbury businesses were recognised at the event for their resiliency, creativity and leadership following the Canterbury earthquakes. Orion was acknowledged in the leadership category alongside the Press, Bowron Sheepskins, Christchurch International Airport, CPIT and Team Hutchinson Ford. Other award categories included resilience, creativity, exporting and staff wellbeing.
Orion Chief Executive Officer Rob Jamieson attended the event to receive Orion's award on behalf of the company, and says he's proud of his staff and their efforts following the earthquakes.
"Our staff are our biggest asset, and they've worked tirelessly after each large quake to reconnect power and restore the electricity network. As a business we've done everything we can to support them following the devastating events of the past year," Mr Jamieson says.
About 1,200 people attended last night's event, including Canterbury businesses being acknowledged, Christchurch Mayor Bob Parker, local MPs and city councillors, and business leaders from throughout New Zealand.
