FedEx Employees Delver Helping Hands
To Environmental Projects During FedEx Cares Week

Fourth Annual Celebration of Volunteerism in New Zealand

AUCKLAND, Sept. 29, 2011—FedEx Express (FedEx), a subsidiary of FedEx Corp. (NYS: FDX) and the world’s largest express transportation company, has completed its fourth annual FedEx Cares Week in the Asia Pacific region. From September 17-25 FedEx volunteers in 12 Asia markets, including 33 volunteers from New Zealand, donated their time to community groups and programs. This is part of a global FedEx initiative involving almost 4,000 employees.

FedEx Cares Week activities have a strong environmental focus. Around 1,000 FedEx volunteers across the region supported 35 local organisations in a range of community activities, including tree planting, gardening, and environmental protection education sessions for children. Other projects being supported include childcare activities, visits to elderly centres, and donations of books and stationary.

Specifically in Auckland, 22 FedEx volunteers demonstrated their commitment to a sustainable environment by participating in the ‘Ark in the Park Project’, coordinated by North Shore Forest and Bird, New Zealand’s longest-serving conservation organisation. FedEx volunteers performed weed and ginger control to preserve the sanctuary for birds and native wildlife in the Waitakere ranges (West Auckland). FedEx volunteers from Christchurch once again teamed up with Travis Wetland Nature Heritage Park, a lowland freshwater wetland, and got their hands dirty to help plant trees during its ‘Restoration Day’.

Since FedEx Cares Week first launched in the U.S. in 2005, it has expanded to more than 40 countries and territories around the globe. This year, FedEx Cares Week will debut in Canada, Spain, Italy, India, the UAE and Switzerland. Together, FedEx volunteers around the world will donate a combined 20,000 hours to serving local organisations.
