New Plymouth Judged Top Hirepool Branch For Quality Of Operations

06 October 2011 –

New Plymouth has been judged the best branch for ‘Quality of Operations’ for 2010-11 by New Zealand equipment solutions leader, Hirepool Limited.

It is the first time the Courtenay Street branch has taken the top position among the 50 Hirepool nationwide network of general equipment hire branches, after finishing runner up last year. As Branch Manager, Paul Chapple says it shows “that being the biggest doesn’t always translate to the best.” Tauranga branch finished second and Blenheim third.

Hirepool New Plymouth has a staff of six, including Mr Chapple, and is regarded as a small-medium sized branch. Some of the larger metropolitan branches have as many as 20-30 full and part time staff. “We’ve being bridesmaid a few times in recent years and it was great to finally get across the line ahead of the others,” he says.

The Hirepool Quality of Operations Award is based on consistency across three key areas of business – equipment, management and branch appearance. All 50 general hire branches are assessed quarterly against a maximum possible 920 points. They have a points weighting of 200 for premises, 300 for equipment and 420 for management.

According to Hirepool National Asset / HSE & Quality Manager, Andrew Messent, the QoO Award, which has been running for more than 20 years, is highly sought after at branch level. He says the management section, which covers “reporting, accuracy and a range of management tools, is essential to not only good decision making, but ensuring customer satisfaction at all times.”

Taranaki was the first region penetrated by Hirepool when the business was acquired from Owens Group in July 2003. At that stage it comprised 14 branches in Auckland, Hamilton, Wellington and Christchurch. Taranaki Hire was acquired in November 2003 and re-badged as Hirepool New Plymouth. It provides a broad range of equipment, servicing the key construction, roading and building sectors as well as an active DIY market.
