NZ Interior Design Awards Announced

Hamilton Interior Designer Paula Hassard took gold today at the NZ Interior Design Awards judged at the Waikato Home & Garden Show. Silver went to Tauranga based Rachel Tabb and Anja Lee of Bubble Interiors, Bronze to Helen Shaw of Picturebook Interiors in Pukekohe and Highly commended to Lisa Marcellus and Tenille Dyer of the The Designers Library in Hamilton.

Paula, who has won an award each year since 2003 has been an interior designer for the past 12 years. Starting off in the garage designing and manufacturing soft furnishings by party plan with a young baby son in tow.

The business continued to grow and Paula is now the Managing Director of Rooms Furniture and Design - a well recognised and established interior design company with a large showroom based in Hamilton. Paula and her design team work on residential and commercial projects throughout New Zealand.

Judging the awards were Amanda Neill – Designworx ,Bev Grant – bgDESIGN ,Donna White – Donna White Interior Design, all Auckland based.

Bev Grant said the judges were unanimous in their opinions that the standard of the winning entries was extraordinarily high and that Paula's entry was a stand-out winner.

“Paul surpassed the brief and her room certainly had the wow factor, but while maintaining the principles and integrity of good design with colour, form and proportion, very cleverly executed. Her use of product with a polyurethane wallpaper floor pushed the boundaries beautifully too,” she said.

Judges were also high in praise for the work of Bubble Interiors and Picturebook Interiors whose work they said was also of an extraordinarily high stand and also for The Designers Library which is why they awarded a merit award.

“Overall the standard was exceptionally high and the entire event very well organised,” Bev said.
