Ti Point Winery
braces for the gold rush
Award-winning vintner Tracy
Haslam and her team at Ti Point Winery are celebrating an
impressive medal tally at the Upper North Island Wine
Challenge. The costal vineyard won gold medals for their
2010 One Matakana Coast Merlot Cabernet and 2010 Matriarch
Matakana Coast Syrah. They also won a silver and bronze
medal.
“We are always delighted when our wines win
awards,” says Haslam, “it’s testament to the hard work
we put into each drop”.
“I am lucky enough to be
surrounded by a passionate team who love what they do.
It’s been a great year for awards for our family run
vineyard, and we are very excited to be recognised
again”.
The Upper North Island Wine Challenge is a
collaborative approach between The University of Auckland
and regional winegrowers, the long term focus on the ability
to identify the sub-regional differences between wines. The
awards will be presented at a ceremony at Old Government
House, on Saturday 5 November.
The 2010 One Matakana
Coast Merlot Cabernet (RRP $44.99) and 2010 Matriarch
Matakana Coast Syrah (RRP $44.99) are available at selected
premium wine outlets.
Background
Tracy
established Ti Point Winery in 1999; along with her mother
Jan and Grandmother Eileen, they converted part of the
family land at Ti Point to vineyard. The running of the
vineyard is a family affair, although today they do employ a
vineyard manager to assist them. At harvest time though
it's not uncommon to see four generations with Tracy's
daughter Ruby helping Nan on the rider mower!
