Clearview Estate appoints General Manager

Clearview Estate Winery and Restaurant has appointed Charles Gear as its first general manager. Gear was previously sales and marketing manager with the Te Awanga-based winery and restaurant business for four years.

A Hawke’s Bay local, Mr Gear has a background in bank marketing, having worked for BNZ in New Zealand, then Barclay’s Bank and HSBC in London. His passion is wine and during his time in London, Gear undertook extramural Master of Wine studies with the City and Guilds of London Institute that built on study for a certificate in winemaking through Hawke’s Bay’s EIT.

Just six weeks after returning to New Zealand in 2007, Mr Gear had secured a position at Clearview Estate and has thrived. He will continue to head up the sales and marketing team but his role has broadened to management of the multi-faceted business.

His is one of three recent promotions at Clearview Estate: Marta Black is now restaurant manager, extending her role from functions and event manager; while Peter Hallgarth has moved to head chef from sous chef. Ms Black and Mr Hallgarth have restructured the restaurant operation and will be working as a team to extend the winery’s iconic dining experience.
