Marisco stickies hitting the sweet spot in overseas markets

Six Gold medals won at Austrian Wine Challenge and Sydney Top 100

Marisco Vineyards’ two Noble Sauvignon Blanc’s bagged a trio of medals over the weekend at the Austrian Wine Challenge and Sydney Top 100. The King’s Series “A Sticky End Noble Sauvignon Blanc 2009”collected a Top 100 Blue Gold in the Sydney Top 100, and a Gold medal at the Austrian Wine Challenge, taking the wine’s total gold medal count to four. The Ned Noble Sauvignon Blanc 2010 also won Blue Gold in Sydney at its first wine show.

“Making sweet wine of international class requires both viticulture and winemaking intuition. Natural botrytis or ‘Noble rot’ is the essence, but each year this needs to be taken on its merits,” says Marris. Eighty-five percent of Marisco Vineyards’ wine is exported, with demand for sweet wines increasing dramatically.

The King’s Favour Sauvignon Blanc 2010, The Ned Sauvignon Blanc 2011 and The Ned Pinot Noir 2010 also won Gold medals at the Austrian Wine Challenge.

The six Gold medals won over the weekend top off a dream run for the company. The King’s Favour Sauvignon Blanc 2010 won Gold medals at the prestigious Mundus Vini competition in Germany, and International Wine & Spirits Challenge in the UK in October.

“We’ve been completely blown away by the number of prestigious awards we’ve won over the last two months. It’s huge endorsement for the work we’ve put in over the past few years getting our fruit in optimum condition and being very demanding of ourselves in the winery,” says Marris.

Marisco Vineyards wines are available in New Zealand, Australia, Singapore, China, the USA, Canada, England, Ireland, Northern Ireland and Germany.
