Valley Longwall statement - Pike River
VLI Drilling Pty Ltd, a subsidiary of Valley Longwall International (VLI) has been charged with offences against the New Zealand Health and Safety in Employment Act in relation to the Pike River Mine accident. VLI Drilling is charged with failing to take all practicable steps to ensure safety, in relation to the maintenance and operation of its drill rig, used in the Pike River Mine.
The NZ Department of Labour is yet to disclose the basis for its allegations to VLI, after which VLI will be able to consider its response to these charges.
As the matter is before the Court, VLI does not intend to make any further public comment.
As we approach the first anniversary of the accident, the company extends again its sympathies to all the families impacted by this tragedy
