Anniversary of the Pike River tragedy
This media release is issued by Minter Ellison Rudd Watts, lawyers for Peter Whittall, the Chief Executive Officer of Pike River Coal Ltd (in receivership).
Mr Whittall has been asked about the pending anniversary, on Saturday, of the Pike River tragedy. It is an anniversary that will be a difficult time for so many people; no less so for Mr Whittall.
Mr Whittall does not wish attendance by him at Saturday’s memorial service in Greymouth to take anything away from a day that should properly be focussed on those who lost family members on 19 November 2010. He will therefore be marking the occasion privately in Wellington.
Mr Whittall expresses his deepest ongoing sympathy to the families of his workmates and friends who died last November and to those who knew them.
