Talley’s Alarmed at Consumer Misconception

Talley’s Alarmed at Consumer Misconception

Bob Darragh National Sales Manager for Talley’s Frozen Foods expressed concern today that New Zealand consumers continue to be confused about what’s local and what’s not.

His concern follows a recent Herald investigation that found consumers are unaware that Talley’s is the only 100% New Zealand grown frozen vegetable brand available in Supermarket freezers.

A Lack of mandatory Country of Origin Labelling is a cause of this misconception.

“Kiwis continue to be confused and misled by the lack of strong and honest labelling laws in New Zealand. That vacuum hurts local producers and consumers alike – its time Government got serious about supporting its primary industries and growers and made a stand on CoOl”

Country of Origin Labelling on food is voluntary in New Zealand. Food items are simply required to state if they include local and/or imported ingredients but not the quantity or origin of each.
All of Talley’s frozen vegetables are grown and processed in rural New Zealand.

“Like most NZ consumers we strongly support the consumer’s right to know where their food is coming from and believe Country of Origin Labelling should be mandatory “ Mr Darragh said
