Best-selling author checking out Kiwi beer

Tuatara Brewing Company
23 February 2012

World renowned drinks and travel writer Stephen Beaumont is currently touring New Zealand to take a close look at our flourishing craft beer industry. The author of A Taste for Beer, The Premium Beer Drinker’s Guide and the forthcoming World Atlas of Beer (co-written with Tim Webb), has been brought to New Zealand by Tuatara Brewing Company, Moa Brewing Company, New Zealand Hops and Cryer Malt. Mr Beaumont will spend almost a week visiting breweries and bars in Auckland, Wellington, Blenheim, Nelson and Christchurch.

Tuatara Brewing Company Director Sean Murrie said the visit was a great opportunity to showcase Kiwi craft beers to one of the world’s most authoritative voices on beer.

“Stephen has a huge following worldwide through his books, blog and long-running website World of Beer. We put together a busy itinerary for him including being a special guest at the Great Kiwi Beer Festival in Christchurch tomorrow. He has spent time with award-winning brewers, helped host a seven course beer and food dinner, and visited the famous hop fields near Nelson. Our intent is to show him the very best of craft beer here,” he said.

Mr Beaumont said the trip was already even better than he expected. “The more I learned about New Zealand, the more I looked forward to visiting. Craft beer here is a young market, which is exciting in itself, but it is also market with huge potential, which makes it doubly exciting. The nation’s hidden weapon may be New Zealand hops, which already have a number of brewer aficionados and advocates internationally. It is quite possible hops will become New Zealand’s ale and lager calling card around the world.”
